What is Liposuction
Any surgical procedure involves a certain degree of risk and
it is important that you understand the risks associated with liposuction . The
individual decision to undergo a surgical intervention is based on the
comparison of the risk with the potential benefit.
Although most patients do not experience the following
complications, you should discuss each with your plastic surgeon to make sure
you understand the risks, potential complications and consequences of
liposuction or liposculpture. I preference for less weight patient liposuction is safe
Changes in Skin Sensitivity
Temporary changes in skin sensitivity may occur after
liposuction , which usually resolve spontaneously. Decreased or complete loss
of skin sensitivity occurs infrequently and may not be fully resolved.
Healing Problems
Although good healing is expected after the surgical
procedure, abnormal scars can occur on both the skin and deep tissues. The
scars may be unsightly or of a different color from the surrounding skin.
Additional treatments may be needed including surgery to treat abnormal
scarring.
Irregularities of Skin Contour
Contour irregularities and skin depressions after a
liposuction that are visible and palpable may occur. Additional treatments may
be needed including surgery to treat irregularities in the skin contour after
liposuction.
Asymmetry
A symmetrical appearance of the body after liposuction may
not be achieved . Factors such as skin tone, bony prominences, and muscle tone
may contribute to normal asymmetry in body traits.
Pulmonary Complications
Fat embolism syndrome occurs when fat droplets are trapped
in the lungs. This is a very rare and possibly fatal complication of
liposuction . If a fat embolism or any other pulmonary complications occur
after liposuction, additional treatment including hospitalization may berequired.
Skin Loss
Skin loss is extremely rare after liposuction . Additional
treatments, including surgery, may be needed.
Seroma
Fluid accumulations occur infrequently in areas where
liposuction has been performed . Additional treatments or surgery may be needed
to drain fluid build-up.
